HBS Club of Charlotte Presents $5,000 to Catherine's House
Karen Andrews, President and CEO of Catherine's House receives a $5,000 check from John Burke, Instructor and Founder of the Management Development Program.
John Burke presented Karen Andrews, President of Catherine’s House, a check for $5,000 on behalf of the Harvard Business School Club of Charlotte. The club raises money for local charities through its Management Development Program, a thirteen week evening course taught by local graduates of the Harvard Business School. Catherine’s House serves single women, many with young children, providing housing, counseling and job training as they transition to their own homes and full time employment or education. Last year Catherine’s House served 92 women for varying periods. With a capacity of 14 women and families, they are typically filled, with a waiting list. The MDP Program Instructors nominated 16 deserving non-profits, many of which they are personally involved with as a volunteer, a donor, or a board member. The Instructors then voted to select 8 non-profits to receive $5,000 each. The Management Development Program allows mid-career executives to hone their decision making skills while discussing case studies in accounting, marketing, finance, operations, organizational behavior, leadership, and ethics. Volunteer Charlotte-based alumni of the Harvard Business School teach the course through Harvard’s famous case study method. Currently, 26 local alumni teach in the program. The Harvard Business School Club of Charlotte has donated $117,000 (cumulative) to non-profits over the past 6 years.
