Recently, Juergen Seybold met with Ginny Amendum, President of Thompson Child and Family Focus, to present a check for $5,000 from the Harvard Business School Club of Charlotte.
Thompson Child & Family Focus (formerly Thompson Children’s Home) is a nationally accredited non-profit organization founded in 1886 that began as an orphanage but which has evolved into a leading provider of effective clinical and behavioral treatment for abused and neglected children, developmental early childhood education, and proactive care for at-risk children and families across North Carolina. Last year, Thompson programs positively impacted 9,600 children, ages birth to 18, across the state and were of major benefit to their families.
Thompson has four campuses in the Charlotte area, with an agency budget of $13 million and over 200 employees. The agency’s Resource Development department raises $2.5 million each year in operating funds and coordinates approximately 750 volunteers annually.
The MDP Program Instructors nominated 16 deserving non-profits, many of which they are personally involved with as a volunteer, a donor, or a board member. The Instructors then voted to select 8 non-profits to receive $5,000 each.
The Management Development Program allows mid-career executives to hone their decision making skills while discussing case studies in accounting, marketing, finance, operations, organizational behavior, leadership, and ethics. Volunteer Charlotte-based alumni of the Harvard Business School teach the course through Harvard’s famous case study method. Currently, 26 local alumni teach in the program.
The Harvard Business School Club of Charlotte has donated $117,000 (cumulative) to non-profits over the past 6 years.
