For our event on May 5, 2011, our speaker will be Jim Sharpe, HBS Senior Lecturer, Entrepreneurial Management Unit. His presentation will center around "Career Transitions - From Large Corporations to Owning his Own Business and Back to HBS with Lessons Learnt Along the Way"

In Jim's own words: " Upon graduation from HBS, I was on an unwavering path to a corporate career and entrepreneurship was the furthest thing from my mind. Ten years later, I took on 10 times my net worth in debt and made the plunge into running my own business. After 21 years of wonderful experiences, I sold the business and found myself back at HBS; not in the skydeck, but in front of the room, teaching.

Along the way I learned a lot about how to turn around troubled businesses, grow my own business on a global scale, work with my spouse, also from HBS, raise a family, leave the business in good hands and learn to teach the case method!"

Jim Sharpe is a Senior Lecturer in the Entrepreneurial Management unit. He teaches a second year elective course on turnarounds and The Entrepreneurial Manager, a first year required course. His interests are in the areas of search funds, manufacturing, B2B niche marketing, turnarounds, pricing, leadership, family balance, large/small company differences, ethics, exit strategies and employee empowerment.

Prior to joining the HBS faculty, Jim was an Entrepreneur-in-Residence during the 2009-2010 academic year counseling students and alumni and contributing to the Harbus.
