Smita Quinn, Deposits Executive at Bank of America and Harvard Business School MBA, is passionate about sailing. Smita is active in a new venture that will create the opportunity for many others to learn how to sail as well. As Smita told the HBS Club, “My family has enjoyed sailing so much and learned so much, that I wanted to help provide this opportunity to people all over our community.”
This new facility, developed in partnership with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department and North Carolina Community Sailing, a 501 (c)(3) organization, will be located on a beautifully situated two acre site at Blythe Landing Park in Cornelius on Lake Norman. This will be the only center of its kind in the region and the venue is perfectly suited for small craft sailing and rowing programs. The Community Sailing & Rowing Center will be less than five minutes from I-77 exit 25.
The volunteer driven organization, North Carolina Community Sailing, will operate 9 months of the year, and 75% of the programming will be directed toward youth.
The vision is to offer all citizens of Mecklenburg and surrounding counties the opportunity to learn, experience, and enjoy the mental and physical challenges associated with the life-long sports of sailing and rowing.
Smita welcomes your questions, and is actively seeking other individuals who would like to share this vision through financial contributions or volunteer activities.
